If your competitors are using a private link network to artificially increase the links to their site then you might find that the sites linking to them are hosted with the same hosting provider.

5. Archive.org – creates a saved asia mobile number list snapshot of a site to their index. The more popular the site the more often the archive is updated. I like to check the Historic Archives of my competitors to see what types of changes they may have carried out to their site’s design over the years. You can also use it to see if a domain was dropped and is now being used by a link network as the content and design may have significantly changed at some point.

Link Detective – if you want to learn
more about the types of links your competitor or their SEO agency are building to their site you can upload a CSV download from Open Site Explorer into Link Detective. After a few minutes (or more if it’s a big file) Link Detective will create a report highlighting more information.

7. IFTTT – (pronounced “ift” as in lift) stands for If This Then That. It’s a very easy-to-use tool to help “put the internet to work for you”. By creating ‘recipes’ based on online triggers and then assigning actions, IFTTT allows you to connect two web services or applications together to perform tasks on auto-pilot

There are lots of great social media monitoring tools for Twitter and Facebook, but there aren’t many tools that I’ve found out there for monitoring Instagram. There are literally thousands of other uses for IFTTT so don’t be afraid to think of some more.

By getting better at competitor research you can begin to identify areas where their marketing strategy is weak or successful and this will ultimately give you an opportunity to develop the strengths of your own online strategy. Competitor research is an ongoing and complicated process and not some one time set and forget tactic.
